Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Windsor stick back chair is characterised by a solid wooden seat into which the legs, back spindles, and armrests are socketed using drilled holes, rather than continuing as main structural posts. Originating in England during the early 18th century, these chairs were traditionally crafted by rural woodworkers.

Traditional Windsor chairs combine several wood species chosen for structural properties, such as elm for carved seats, ash or beech for steam-bent arm rails and spindles, and turned timber for legs. Construction relies on wedged mortise and tenon joinery without mechanical metal fasteners.

Authentic period pieces display tool marks under the seat board, wedge joinery where spindles meet the top rail, and subtle variations in turned legs due to manual lathe operation. Historic paint finishes frequently exhibit natural wear, surface oxidisation, and layered patination at touch points.

Painted Windsor armchairs can be positioned around modern dining tables to create a contrast of textures and historical periods. Their sculpted silhouette and patinated painted surface also allow them to function as standalone accent seating in hallways or study areas.

Dust regularly using a soft dry microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or solvent-based polishes that can degrade historical paint layers. Maintain stable environmental humidity to prevent wood shrinkage, joint movement, or flaking paintwork.
