This pre-sixteenth century Jacobean court cupboard is a period English piece made from solid oak in a dark brown finish. It stands at 164 cm tall, 132 cm wide, and 63 cm deep, presenting a traditional cottage scale that fits comfortably into various living spaces today. The construction displays a recessed upper section with geometric panel moulding on the doors, an arched centre panel, and turned drop pendants hanging from the frieze. The lower cabinet features a two-door panelled configuration fitted with original iron butterfly hinges and hardware. Visible wear includes subtle surface markings and natural timber grain variations across the dark wood surfaces. Practical storage is provided by internal shelving behind the panelled doors, making this cabinet suitable for everyday use in a dining room, hallway, or living area to store tableware, linens, or books. The solid timber construction and traditional joinery reflect authentic English country house style without modern alterations. Buyers receive an untouched antique cupboard ready for placement in a home interior.

A court cupboard is a two-tiered piece of 16th or 17th-century storage furniture traditionally used in dining halls to display silverware and store linens or food.

These cupboards were primarily constructed from solid native hardwoods, such as oak, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, hand-planed panels, and hand-forged iron hardware.

Authentic period pieces typically display hand-tooled surfaces, wooden peg construction, irregular board widths due to manual sawing, and original iron butterfly or H-hinges.

Position the cupboard as a focal point in a dining room or hallway, setting its dark timber against neutral wall paint and simple modern ceramics to balance the visual weight.

Dust the surfaces regularly with a dry soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood and protect its natural patina.
