The William IV period spans from 1830 to 1837, bridging Regency and early Victorian styles, characterised by robust proportions, classical motifs, and frequent use of dark exotic timbers like rosewood and mahogany.

Tea caddies from the 19th century were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or tortoiseshell, often featuring interior foil linings and intricate brass or mother-of-pearl inlay.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate hand-cut dovetail joints, old secondary timbers like pine or cedar inside, hand-engraved escutcheons, and natural aging such as wax polish buildup and timber shrinkage.

An antique tea caddy functions well as a decorative tabletop object on a console, coffee table, or bookshelf, adding historical texture and warm wood tones to contemporary living spaces.

Preserve antique rosewood by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without sealing it.
