FAQs

Nineteenth-century furniture encompasses various historic revival movements, heavily influenced by industrial manufacturing advancements alongside traditional handcrafting techniques.

Cabinet makers typically utilised solid timber carcasses with decorative veneers such as mahogany, walnut, and birds-eye maple, often complemented by brass hardware and hand-carved wooden mounts.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine timber shrinkage, period finishes like shellac or wax, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with minimalist modern decor creates a balanced contrast, allowing the natural grain and craftsmanship to serve as a focal point.

Maintain antique wooden pieces by keeping them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat surfaces periodically with high-quality microcrystalline wax to protect the finish.
