This Regency rosewood pier cabinet works as a display cabinet, bookcase, or drinks cabinet in a living room, hallway, or study. The dark brown piece has a flame veneer on the drawer-style apron, a spindle gallery top with turned rosewood spindles, twin glazed doors, a plain plinth base, and a fixed central shelf. It stands 98 cm high, 77 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. Rosewood displays a natural figured grain pattern across the dark brown surfaces. The doors hold glass panels set into timber frames, secured by a small keyhole escutcheon near the centre join. The gallery rail consists of evenly spaced, slender turned spindles mounted atop the upper tier. The design rests flat upon a straight plinth base.

FAQs

A Regency pier cabinet is a low storage unit originally designed to fit into the wall space between windows, featuring glazed doors for display and refined woodwork characteristic of early 19th-century British design.

These pieces were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, incorporating glass panes, brass fittings, and turned wooden spindle galleries.

Authentic Regency cabinets display rich natural timber figure, hand-cut joinery on internal elements, period-appropriate glass, and signs of genuine patination around keyholes and base mouldings.

Position the piece along a main wall to store books or ceramics within the glazed section, using the upper spindle gallery to frame table lamps or artwork above.

Clean surfaces using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly, avoiding direct heat sources and strong sunlight to protect the veneer.
