This Regency rosewood pier cabinet comes from around 1820 and follows the classical Regency style in dark brown timber. The construction includes a figured top, a brass-inlaid frieze across the upper section, and a single glazed door enclosing three tiers of shelves. Flanking the central door are turned columns with decorative metal caps at the top and base, whilst the lower plinth rests upon blocks set with star-shaped brass mounts and a small latch handle sits on the left stile. Practical dimensions measure 93 cm high, 75 cm wide, and 29 cm deep. Position this bookcase in a study, library, or living room to house books and display small ornamental collections behind glass protection. The compact footprint makes the cabinet suitable for alcoves or narrow wall spaces in traditional and period interiors.

Regency pier cabinets are low, slender storage pieces originally designed to stand against the wall between two windows in formal rooms. They typically feature glazed doors, rich timber veneers such as rosewood, and classical architectural detailing.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era frequently utilised exotic timber veneers like rosewood over solid oak or pine carcasses. Decorative elements often included brass filigree inlay, turned columns, and gilded or cast brass mounts.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass fittings showing natural oxidisation, and timber veneer with characteristic grain variations consistent with early nineteenth-century hand tools.

A low glazed cabinet functions effectively as an accent piece in a hallway, alcove, or living area, serving as a venue for displaying antiquarian books or ceramics without dominating room scale.

Dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth maintains the surface finish. Applying a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year protects the timber veneer and original patina from drying out.
