A hanging candle box is a traditional domestic container designed to store tallow or wax candles safely away from pests and dust, typically featuring a wall-mounting bracket and a sloping lid.

These boxes were predominantly constructed from native British timbers such as oak and pine, often joined using traditional pegged construction or dovetails.

Authentic pieces usually display period hand-cut nails, wooden pegs, natural patination, and wear patterns consistent with age and frequent handling.

Mounting the box on a plain wall allows its historic texture and grain to serve as a focal point, contrasting effectively against contemporary neutral plaster.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly only when the wood appears dry.
