FAQs

Late Victorian furniture, produced towards the end of the 19th century, often incorporated eclectic revivals of historic styles, featuring delicate marquetry, satinwood stringing, and integrated mirror backs designed to reflect light in urban homes.

These pieces typically utilised dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany as a primary carcass, accented with contrasting lighter veneers like satinwood, boxwood, and ivory for intricate marquetry and floral motifs.

Authenticity is identified through traditional construction methods, including hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, oxidisation patterns on original mirrored glass, and the natural patina and grain variation found in genuine rosewood.

Such a statement piece works effectively as a focal point in a dining room or living space, contrasted against minimalist neutral walls to highlight the intricate wood grain and marquetry without visual clutter.

Preservation requires placement away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking or veneer lifting, supplemented by occasional gentle cleaning with microfibre cloths and high-quality beeswax.
