Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The George I period, spanning from 1714 to 1727, is characterised by a transition from heavy baroque forms to lighter, more flowing designs featuring cabriole legs, pad feet, and prominent use of walnut and exotic veneers.

Chairmakers of this era primarily utilised native timbers such as walnut, oak, and beech, alongside imported exotic hardwoods like cocuswood and mahogany, often enhanced with elaborate marquetry and crossbanding.

Authenticity is determined by examining traditional joinery techniques such as hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, tool marks, timber shrinkage patterns, and period-appropriate wear consistent with eighteenth-century manufacturing.

Pairing historic seating with modern minimalist tables creates a striking contrast that highlights the craftsmanship of the antique piece while maintaining a balanced, functional living space.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically apply traditional beeswax to nourish the timber surface without damaging the historic finish.
