Description

A superb pair of antique Swedish leather club armchairs. They were recently imported from Sweden, they date from around the 1900-1910 period.

The quality is outstanding, they are of generous proportions, they are well sprung and are extremely comfortable. They stand on solid oak tapered legs and have a gorgeous colour tone.

The condition is excellent for their age, the leather has been enhanced and revived by our leather restorer, the legs have also been re-polished. There are a couple of tiny repairs to the leather seen in the images, overall they have a wonderful patina and no major damage.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The club armchair originated in France during the early 20th century, known as fauteuil comfortables, and gained popularity across Europe for its deep, enveloping seat and robust construction.

Traditional construction typically involves a solid hardwood frame, coil spring suspension, hand-tied webbing, horsehair or foam stuffing, and high-grade full-grain leather upholstery.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the leather, hand-stitched seams, traditional joinery in the wooden frame, and the presence of period-appropriate hardware and patina.

Pairing these armchairs with minimalist modern decor, neutral walls, and textured wool rugs creates a balanced focal point that highlights the rich leather tones.

Maintain antique leather by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly, and applying specialised leather cream or saddle soap periodically to prevent cracking.
