Regency style spans the late 18th to early 19th century, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by clean symmetry, exotic veneers, and elaborate brass inlay.

Writing slopes were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, rosewood, or coromandel, featuring brass hinges, escutcheons, inlaid banding, and leather or velvet writing surfaces inside.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, secondary woods like pine or oak used for interior partitions, traditional cast brass hardware, and natural ageing or patina on the timber and metal.

Placed atop a credenza, side table, or desk, an antique writing slope introduces historical depth and texture, functioning as both a sculptural object and practical storage for small items.

Preserve wooden boxes by keeping them out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable indoor humidity to prevent wood splitting, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber and protect the brass inlay.
