Regency style spans the early 19th century, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, characterised by formal symmetry, clean geometric lines, and contrasting materials such as ebonised wood and metallic embellishments.

Regency mirrors typically feature hand-carved wood frames, often finished with ebonised or gilded paint, combined with silvered flat or convex glass plates secured with traditional metal studs or beaded borders.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period-appropriate foxing and oxidation on the mirror glass, hand-cut glass plates, subtle irregularities in the frame construction, and historical fixings on the reverse.

Placing an antique mirror above a contemporary console table or minimalist fireplace creates a striking focal point, using the reflective surface to bounce natural light around the room while contrasting historic craftsmanship with clean architectural lines.

Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth and clean the glass using a lint-free cloth lightly misted with distilled water or a mild, non-ammonia glass cleaner, avoiding direct application of liquid to the edges of the mirror plate to prevent moisture damage.
