FAQs

The Gothic Revival movement emerged during the mid-nineteenth century, drawing heavy inspiration from medieval architecture, ecclesiastical design, and traditional craftsmanship to create ornate, dramatic wooden furnishings.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak, employing traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon, accompanied by intricate hand-carved tracery, linenfold panels, and figurative motifs.

Authentic items generally exhibit period-correct patination, hand-cut joinery marks, genuine timber shrinkage, and traditional tool marks that distinguish them from modern reproductions.

Pairing this historic piece with minimalist contemporary furniture or neutral backgrounds creates a striking focal point, allowing the intricate carvings and rich wood grain to stand out as sculptural art.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying a specialist beeswax polish to nourish the timber.
