Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French bedside cabinets, commonly known as commodes de nuit, gained popularity in the 18th and 19th centuries. The inclusion of marble tops provided a durable, hygienic surface for holding washbasins and water jugs before indoor plumbing was common in bedrooms.

Traditional pieces typically feature a solid oak or pine carcass veneered with figured woods such as walnut, mahogany, or burr elm. The tops are fitted with heavy slab marble, often grey or white veined, selected for its resistance to water and staining.

Authentic period pieces display traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails on the drawer construction. Examination of the interior timber, backboards, and fixingsoften featuring hand-forged screws or wrought iron elementshelps determine the age and origin.

This piece works well as a functional bedside table or a compact accent unit in a living space. Pairing the rich wood grain and cold marble surface with modern minimalist lighting or contemporary ceramics creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic.

Protect the marble surface from acidic substances like citrus or wine to prevent etching, and clean it with a damp cloth and neutral soap. Feed the wood periodically with a quality beeswax to maintain the finish without causing moisture buildup.
