FAQs

The Regency style spans the early 19th century in Britain, drawing heavy inspiration from classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian architecture, characterised by clean classical proportions, dark woods, and refined craftsmanship.

Cabinet makers predominantly used dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban and Honduras mahogany, often accented with brass inlays, carved details, and traditionally upholstered drop-in or stuffed seats.

Authentication involves examining construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional joinery, the patina and oxidisation of the wood, tool marks, and historical wear patterns consistent with early 19th-century manufacturing.

Pairing antique dining chairs with a contemporary minimalist dining table creates a striking juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship of the vintage seating while keeping the space feeling fresh.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding extreme humidity fluctuations, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax.
