FAQs

Named after cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, the style emerged in 18th-century England and is characterised by intricate pierced splat backs, cabriole or square legs, and influences from Gothic, Rococo, and Chinese designs.

Authentic period pieces are predominantly constructed from dense, durable timbers such as imported Honduras mahogany, featuring traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints to ensure structural integrity.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, tool marks, patination, and the construction of the drop-in seat frames, as older pieces often exhibit hand-cut joints and appropriate signs of historical wear.

Pairing these historic wooden chairs with a sleek, minimalist dining table creates a striking contrast that highlights their craftsmanship while grounding a modern dining space.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying periodic applications of traditional beeswax, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
