Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These 19th-century display cabinets are designed in the Rococo Revival style, fashioned from warm brown kingwood with rich timber tones, polished white marble tops, transparent glass, and gleaming ormolu mounts. Each freestanding vitrine stands on curvaceous cabriole legs ending in scrolled feet, supporting a bombe-shaped body with a glazed front door enclosing interior glass shelves against a vibrant red fabric-lined interior. Elaborate floral marquetry lower panels display heart-shaped pastoral landscape scenes, complemented by intricate parquetry diamond patterns across the wooden surfaces and ornate gilded ormolu hardware edging the corners and frames. Measuring 165 cm high, 65 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, these cabinets provide ample vertical storage and display space. In a contemporary home, these glazed display cabinets suit formal reception rooms, elegant drawing rooms, or refined hallways to house and display cherished collections of porcelain, glassware, or decorative objects. Their striking combination of warm wood finishes, romantic inlaid scenes, and decorative metal mounts creates a distinct focal point in sophisticated interior schemes, functioning as both functional storage and decorative furniture.

FAQs

Rococo Revival furniture, prominent in the 19th century, draws inspiration from 18th-century Louis XV designs. It is characterised by serpentine silhouettes, cabriole legs, elaborate gilt-bronze mounts, and intricate marquetry or parquetry woodwork.

High-end French vitrines typically feature exotic wood veneers such as kingwood or rosewood, combined with cast gilt-bronze (ormolu) fittings, glass panelling, marble tops, and silk or velvet interior linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry veneers, heavy cast ormolu mounts with chiselled detailing, original marble tops shaped to follow the carcass contours, and hand-fitted glass panels within timber frames.

Positioning a pair of vitrines symmetrically on either side of an architectural feature, such as a fireplace or doorway, provides balance. Modern interiors benefit from styling the interior shelves with minimal, neutral ceramics or glass art to contrast the elaborate woodwork.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keeping wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Ormolu mounts should be gently dusted without harsh chemical metal polishes, which can strip gilding or damage surrounding wood veneers.
