FAQs

Music cabinets became popular during the Victorian era as home entertainment shifted toward parlour music and the collection of sheet music, requiring dedicated storage furniture.

Cabinet makers frequently utilised luxurious veneers such as burr walnut, rosewood, and mahogany over a secondary wood base, often incorporating brass hardware and glazed doors.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-correct construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional timber shrinkage, original glass, and internal sliding shelves or vertical partitions for sheet music.

This piece can serve as an accent storage unit in a living room or study, contrasting effectively against minimalist contemporary decor or complementing a traditional dark academia aesthetic.

Maintain the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive humidity changes, and occasionally treating the surface with quality beeswax while avoiding silicone-based polishes.
