Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Chinese famille rose porcelain vase from the Republic Period stands ready to grace a gentleman's library or sideboard top. The white glazed vessel features a flared rim, a slender neck set with two vibrant orange elephant-head handles, and a bulbous body tapering to a circular foot. Famille rose overglaze enamels depict a hand-painted figure of an Immortal seated beside a craggy rock formation, accompanied by a gnarled pine tree with green needles, blossoming trees with pink flowers, and a cluster of low flowering plants in red and blue. Black calligraphic inscriptions and artist signatures sit alongside the main scene in vertical columns. The hand-painted decoration includes subtle shading on the figures, rocks, and foliage, while the white glaze covers the entire exterior surface except the foot rim. Measuring 37 cm high, the vase fits easily into domestic displays. Placement on a sideboard top or within a cabinet allows collectors to admire the intricate enamels and handwritten calligraphy. Maintenance requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth to protect the painted surface and glaze integrity.

FAQs

Republic period Chinese porcelain (19121949) is noted for a departure from imperial control, allowing master artists to create individual hand-painted works, often incorporating fine calligraphy and detailed figure painting using enamel glazes.

Famille rose porcelain utilises opaque overglaze enamels introduced to China during the Qing dynasty, featuring a palette dominated by pink, white, and opaque enamel tones applied over a fired translucent white porcelain body.

Authentic pieces feature fine brushwork, artist signatures, or seals painted alongside calligraphic inscriptions, as well as period-appropriate porcelain foot rim wear and refined enamel pigmentation.

Position the vessel as a singular focal point on a mantlepiece, console table, or sideboard, allowing its detailed narrative artwork to contrast against neutral wall tones or minimalist architectural backdrops.

Dust gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or camel-hair brush, avoiding chemical cleaners or submersion in water which can degrade delicate overglaze enamels and original painted details.
