Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A prie-dieu, translating from French as pray God, is a devotional piece of furniture designed for private prayer. The chair features a low upholstered seat and an elevated, padded top rail upon which the user could rest their arms or kneel while leaning forward.

These items are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon. The upholstery often incorporates hand-stitched needlepoint, gros point, or petit point tapestries featuring floral or ecclesiastical motifs.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber patina, hand-cut joinery, type of screws or nails used, and the age of the textile fibres. Hand-woven needlework displays irregularities characteristic of manual production rather than modern machine-loop weaving.

This piece functions effectively as an occasional seat in a study, bedroom, or hallway where its distinct architectural silhouette can be appreciated. Pairing the historical woodwork with contemporary minimalist surroundings creates a balanced, curated aesthetic.

Maintain the wood by dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber. Avoid direct sunlight to protect the aged textile colours, and use professional conservation cleaning methods for delicate needlepoint.
