Description

A wonderful pair of antique mahogany side tables. They were made in England, they date from around the 1910-1920 period.

The quality is excellent, they are extremely well made and are a very useful size. There are nicely shaped edges around the top, and each table has a handy lower tier, they are very sturdy.

We have recently had these re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age. The mahogany has acquired a gorgeous patina over the years, there is some minor old wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Mahogany side tables gained prominence during the Georgian and Victorian eras when cabinet makers favoured the dense, durable wood for its rich grain and versatility in domestic interiors.

These tables are typically constructed from solid mahogany or feature mahogany veneers over secondary hardwoods, often utilising traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, signs of natural oxidisation and wear consistent with age, and traditional finishing methods such as shellac or wax polish rather than modern synthetic lacquers.

Pairing dark wood period tables with modern minimalist lamps or abstract ceramics creates a balanced contrast that anchors contemporary living spaces.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and periodically applying a quality beeswax, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
