Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often looked back to 18th-century Sheraton and Chippendale designs, favouring lighter proportions, delicate marquetry inlay, and refined mahogany or satinwood timbers.

These cabinets typically utilised solid mahogany or satinwood veneers over a secondary timber core, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in drawer construction, delicate glazing bars, and precise satinwood or boxwood stringing and marquetry.

Authentication relies on examining the timber ageing, hand-cut joinery, old-style screws, traditional glass with minor imperfections or bubbles, and the presence of hand-applied polish rather than modern synthetic lacquers.

Pairing dark polished wood with contemporary neutral walls and minimalist decor creates a striking focal point, allowing the historical craftsmanship to stand out while balancing the rooms overall aesthetic.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels and keep the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting. Clean periodically with a soft, dry cloth and apply high-quality beeswax sparingly when the wood appears dry.
