FAQs

A misers snuff box is a small pocket container typically featuring a sliding or spring-loaded lid designed to dispense snuff in strictly controlled, small portions.

These boxes were frequently fashioned from bone, horn, wood, or ivory, often decorated using techniques such as scrimshaw, incised work, and pyrography.

Authentic pieces exhibit genuine age-related patination, natural material characteristics such as Haversian systems in bone, hand-carved detailing, and period-appropriate hinges or fastenings.

These miniature items are ideally placed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables as subtle curiosities that add historical texture to contemporary displays.

Keep bone items away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaning them only with a soft, dry cloth without the use of harsh chemical polishes.
