Cheval mirrors first gained popularity in late 18th-century England during the Georgian period, specifically the George III era, designed as full-length pivoting mirrors for dressing rooms.

Authentic pieces were constructed using dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany, featuring hand-turned supports, brass pivot hardware, and traditional dovetail or mortise and tenon joinery.

Authenticity is identified by examining the secondary woods, hand-beveled or old mercury glass plates showing age oxidisation, and original hand-turned wooden threading or brass mounting hardware.

This piece can be incorporated into contemporary spaces by placing it in a dressing room or bedroom to introduce warmth, historical contrast, and functional vertical reflection.

Preserve the piece by maintaining stable ambient room temperatures away from direct sunlight, cleaning the timber with a soft dry cloth, and avoiding chemical polishes.
