During the Georgian period, tea was an exceptionally costly luxury commodity, leading to the creation of secure, lockable caddies to protect the dried leaves from theft and moisture.

Cabinet makers typically constructed these pieces using fine native and exotic timbers such as harewood, mahogany, and satinwood, frequently featuring intricate stringing, marquetry, and dovetail joinery.

Authentic items display period-correct construction techniques, hand-cut dovetails, genuine patina on the timber, original brass or steel locks, and historical wear consistent with age.

This piece works well displayed on a side table, chest, or mantelpiece, adding historical texture and a refined focal point to modern or traditional spaces.

Protect the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, occasionally applying appropriate microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish without harming the wood.
