Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often referenced earlier periods such as Sheraton and Chippendale, featuring lighter proportions, delicate marquetry, and a focus on elegance and comfort.

Cabinetmakers typically utilised dense hardwoods such as mahogany and satinwood, often enhanced with boxwood or ebony stringing and intricate marquetry. Construction relied on traditional mortise and tenon joints to ensure structural integrity.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate joinery, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, natural age-related patina on the timber, and historically accurate upholstery materials and webbing underneath.

These versatile pieces work well as accent seating in contemporary living rooms or as occasional chairs in a hallway, adding historical depth and textural contrast to minimalist or modern spaces.

Keep wooden furniture out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally apply a quality natural beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
