Description

A superb antique Edwardian inlaid mahogany armchair, beautifully made from solid mahogany with satin wood inlay. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1890-1900 period.

It is of very fine quality and has a stunning design. The mahogany frame is not too imposing, with a beautifully shaped back, stunning curves on the arms and a gorgeous stretchered base. The back is profusely inlaid with amazing satin wood in a lovely design.

We have had this re-polished and re-upholstered in our cream cotton fabric, it is in excellent condition for its age. There are just some signs of minor natural wear under the polish, this has a lovely patina.

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter proportions, neoclassical influences, and a departure from the heavy, dark styles of the Victorian era.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood, frequently featuring intricate marquetry or line inlay, hand-carved details, and traditional mortise and tenon joinery.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period-appropriate timber patination, hand-cut joinery, genuine botanical or classical marquetry motifs, and structural wear consistent with early 20th-century manufacture.

Pairing a traditional antique chair with contemporary minimalist furniture creates a balanced, eclectic aesthetic that highlights the craftsmanship and unique character of the vintage piece.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying periodic natural beeswax polish, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners to protect the finish.
