George II mirrors are characterised by architectural proportions, scrolling pediments, carved giltwood accents, and classical motifs such as shells and flower heads.

They typically feature dense secondary timbers such as mahogany or pine, accented with gesso and gold leaf for the parcel gilt sections.

Authenticity is assessed through the presence of old-growth timber, hand-carved details, silvered plate glass with natural foxing, and original construction joints on the reverse.

It serves as a striking focal point when hung above a fireplace mantel or console table, creating a contrast against neutral or deeply coloured walls.

Keep the mirror out of direct sunlight, avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the gilt and glass, and maintain stable indoor humidity levels to protect the wood and backing.
