This 1890 Regency rosewood cabinet on stand displays a rich brown timber finish and stands 143 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. The upper section comprises double glazed doors with distinct multi-pane glazing bars, secured by decorative brass strap hinges and corner mounts, enclosing a shelved interior. Below the display case sit two frieze drawers fitted with ornate brass drop handles. The supporting stand incorporates carved turned columns with patterned sections, a wide open lower pot board shelf, and a stepped plinth base topped with decorative finials. Suitable for a gentleman's library or study, this piece provides display space and storage for books or collections behind glass doors, alongside open lower storage. The combination of enclosed upper shelving, drawer space, and a lower platform base makes it practical for organising items while serving as a prominent focal point in a traditional interior setting.

Originating in the late seventeenth century and evolving through the Regency and Victorian eras, the cabinet on stand was designed as a prestige furniture form to display and safeguard precious items, books, and curiosities.

These cabinets typically feature rich rosewood veneers over solid hardwood cores, hand-blown glass panes, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and cast brass hardware such as strap hinges and drop handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit distinct grain patterns characteristic of genuine rosewood, original hand-cut joinery inside drawers, natural age oxidation on brass fittings, and signs of traditional wax finishing.

Place the piece against a neutral or boldly painted backdrop to highlight the dark wood tones, using the glass shelves to curate modern ceramics or leather-bound volumes.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and modern heat sources to prevent drying or fading, clean glass panels with non-ammonia cleaners, and nourish the wood periodically with high-grade beeswax.
