FAQs

Georgian furniture, spanning the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated craftsmanship, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense imported hardwoods like mahogany, employing traditional joinery techniques such as dovetail joints for drawers, mortise and tenon frames, and hand-turned wooden components.

Authenticity is assessed through structural inspection, looking for hand-cut dovetails, older secondary woods, natural oxidisation, uniform shrinkage patterns, and period-appropriate brass hardware fittings.

Pairing historical timber pieces with modern minimalist decor creates a curated aesthetic, using the rich tones of the wood to ground contemporary lighting or neutral colour palettes.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying periodic microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
