Nineteenth-century Burmese woodcarving is characterised by deeply undercut, intricate floral and foliate motifs, often depicting mythological scenes or natural foliage crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like teak.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid tropical hardwoods, featuring hand-carved relief panels assembled with traditional joinery methods rather than modern fasteners.

Authenticity is indicated by old growth timber grain, hand-cut glass with natural ageing or foxing, hand-chiselled tool marks on the reverse, and a deep, dry patina accumulated over decades.

Pair the heavily textured timber frame with minimalist contemporary furniture or neutral walls to allow the intricate craftsmanship to function as a focal point without overwhelming the space.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting gently with a soft dry brush and avoiding liquid polishes that can damage the aged wooden surface.
