This clear lead glass drinking vessel originates from the Georgian period around 1800. The piece takes the form of a dwarf ale glass with a conical bowl, a short knopped stem, and a flat circular foot. The surface displays wheel-engraved motifs depicting barley and hops, while the structure includes a plain and lightly domed foot alongside a broken pontil mark on the underside. Measuring 12 cm high by 6 cm wide and 6 cm deep, the item is sized appropriately for display on a sideboard top in an English Country House interior setting. Collectors can place this item within a dedicated glassware cabinet or on a dining surface for presentation alongside other period vessels. The lead glass construction provides transparency, allowing light to pass through the engraved decoration of botanical stems. The vertical proportions and stable circular base support traditional tabletop arrangements without requiring complex hardware or maintenance beyond standard care for antique glassware.

A dwarf ale glass is a short, conical drinking vessel produced primarily in Britain during the eighteenth century, specifically designed for drinking strong ale. These glasses typically feature wheel-engraved motifs of barley and hops, reflecting their intended function.

Georgian glassware was predominantly crafted from heavy lead crystal, hand-blown using a blowpipe and shaped with hand tools. Designs were decorated using copper-wheel engraving, resulting in precise matte details depicting flora, agricultural themes, or heraldic emblems.

Authentic eighteenth-century glass often exhibits minor irregularities from hand-blowing, such as tiny air bubbles or seed marks, alongside a hand-ground pontil mark on the underside of the foot. The glass itself usually displays a greyish or purplish cast due to historical raw material impurities.

Antique glassware can be displayed inside a glass-fronted cabinet or arranged on a timber sideboard to showcase light refraction. Grouping glasses of varying heights creates an engaging focal point in a dining room or home bar setting.

Antique lead glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding rapid temperature changes that cause thermal shock. A soft microfibre cloth should be used for drying and polishing, avoiding abrasive materials or mechanical dishwashers.
