Antique Satsuma vases are Japanese earthenware vessels defined by a warm ivory-coloured body, a fine crackle glaze, and heavy overglaze enamels. Originally made in the Satsuma domain, production shifted to Kyoto and Yokohama to meet Western export demand during the late nineteenth century.
