A low-seated single chair, usually armless, made in quantity in 19th-century Britain for the bedroom, the parlour and the dressing table.
The same chair travels under many names: bedroom, ladies', slipper, spoon-back, salon, prie-dieu, fireside - and, once or twice, gossip chair.
