Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French Louis XV style vitrine is a specialised display cabinet characterised by curved glass panels, asymmetrical Rococo ornamentation, cabriole legs, and gilt bronze ormolu mounts. Originating in 18th-century France, these cabinets were created to showcase precious porcelain, glass, and curiosities.

Traditional French vitrines are typically constructed using fine hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood, decorated with marquetry or veneers. The decorative mounts are cast in bronze and gilded (ormolu), while the display section incorporates bent or curved glass panes and velvet-lined shelving.

Authentic period vitrines feature hand-moulded or hand-bent glass, hand-chiselled gilt bronze mounts held by small screws from behind, and traditional joinery techniques like hand-cut dovetails. The gilding on vintage ormolu often shows gentle wear and natural patination in lower-recessed areas.

A French vitrine serves as a focal point when placed against a neutral or dark backdrop in a living room, hallway, or dining space. To balance the ornate detailing, style the interior shelves with modern ceramics, minimalist glassware, or contemporary sculpture.

Dust mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish occasionally along the grain. Clean ormolu mounts using a dry soft brush; avoid chemical solvents or abrasive metal polishes which strip protective gilding. Glass panels should be cleaned with a glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the wood.
