Large 19th Century French Carved Gilt-framed Wall / Overmantel Mirror

Description

An impressive and extremely large early 19th century French gilt framed Wall or Overmantel Mirror, ornately carved and with original makers label verso indicating it was made by L.H. Petit (Paris) founded 1799.

The original one-piece mirror plate is in excellent condition with no signs of fogging or patching. Square shaped at the base and domed at the top. The frame features heavy and ornate carving to the dome top, with a coat of arms front and centre and floral swags to either side. The rest of the surrounding frame features carved and gilded 'Acanthus' leaves and berries with crossed ribbon pattern.

Dimensions:   Height: 81 inches (206 cm). Width: 51 inches (130 cm). Depth (max): 9.5 inches (24 cm).

Maker: L.H. Petit (Paris), established in 1799 operated from the famous Dépôt de Glaces de St Gobain, in Rue St Denis, between La Rue du Cairo and la Rue Reaumur. Makers of luxury mirrors.
