An exhibition quality embossed leather folding writing box, with large cast brass inset lifting handle. Engraved beneath “Captain W. Grant 25th December 1873.” The elaborate top opens to reveal a well fitted interior which is hinged and folds back again to reveal a large leathered writing surface inside of the lid is fitted for letters and pens, with removable blotter, other compartments including inkwell and match holder. All metal fittings are in gilded brass and the lock is engraved “Bramah London”.
