FAQs

Chippendale style originates from the 18th-century designs of London cabinetmaker Thomas Chippendale, whose influential publication The Gentleman and Cabinet-Makers Director popularised rococo, chinoiserie, and gothic elements in British furniture.

These chairs are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, featuring mortise and tenon joints, intricate hand-carved splats, and drop-in upholstered seats.

Authentic pieces are identified by examining tool marks, timber shrinkage, construction joints, secondary woods used in the frame, and historical wear patterns consistent with eighteenth-century manufacturing techniques.

They can be paired with a contemporary minimalist dining table to create an effective contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain wood using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicon polishes, keep them away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and protect historic upholstery with professional gentle cleaning methods.
