Late Victorian and Edwardian display cabinets frequently drew inspiration from earlier classical periods such as Sheraton and Hepplewhite, incorporating lighter woods, delicate marquetry, and slender proportions designed to showcase porcelain and curiosities.

These pieces typically utilised solid mahogany or satinwood carcasses veneered with figured mahogany, accented by boxwood and ebony stringing, hand-cut dovetails, and glazed doors framed with fine mouldings.

Authenticity is assessed through timber oxidisation, hand-beveiled or cylinder glass panes, traditional joinery methods like hand-cut dovetailing in the drawers, and maker stamps or paper labels often found on the inside of drawer frames or backboards.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall to highlight the rich wood grain and inlay, using the interior glass shelves to display a curated collection of ceramics or glassware while balancing the traditional silhouette with modern surroundings.

Maintain the finish by keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood shrinkage, and apply microcrystalline wax periodically rather than modern silicone sprays to nourish the timber.
