FAQs

Windsor chairs originated in England during the early 18th century, characterised by a distinctive construction where the legs and back are fitted directly into a solid wooden seat.

Traditional construction typically combines multiple timbers, such as an elm seat for strength, ash or yew for bentwood bows and spindles, and beech or fruitwood for the legs.

Authentic pieces often show hand-tooled adze marks on the sculpted seat, wedge tenon joints where spindles penetrate the seat, and natural wear patterns consistent with age.

Placing the chair as a standalone accent piece in a minimalist room creates a strong focal point, contrasting clean contemporary lines with historic craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources and applying microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish and protect the finish.
