19th Century Welsh Stick Chair

Description

A handsome example of a late 18th or early 19th century stick chair, with a slightly out-splayed comb, three-piece armrail and chamfered, rectangular section front arm supports.

Made from a variety of woods, predominantly ash, for the seat and the sticks, but also beech, for the “eared” cresting rail and oak for the two front arm supports and one of the legs.

The colour is a warm honey with good patina, one rear leg possibly an old replacement.

Probably Glamorganshire, circa 1800.
