Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This child's lambing chair dates from the 17th century and originates from Wales, constructed from solid oak with a dark brown finish. The piece takes the form of a miniature vernacular rocking chair with a shaped crest rail along the top edge, a panelled backrest, and exaggerated sweeping wing sides that curve forward. Swept wooden arms connect the back to heavy turned front supports flanking the seat, while turned legs below are united by plain stretchers resting on curved wooden rocker runners. Surface wear includes visible wood grain texture, darkened patination from age, and minor grain splits along the timber elements. Practical dimensions measure 69 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. The chair is suited for placement in a living room, nursery, or traditional hallway as a decorative display piece or collector's item.

FAQs

Maintain historical oak by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a light coat of beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Avoid modern aerosol polishes, excessive moisture, and direct proximity to radiators or strong heating sources.

A period lambing chair serves as a architectural accent piece when placed alongside simple contemporary textiles or modern minimalist furnishings. Its sculptural silhouette works well beside a hearth, within a reading nook, or positioned as a focal entry piece.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-carved joinery details, irregular tool marks, uneven wear around the armrests and footrests, and natural shrinkage in solid wood panels over time. Original wax finishes display a dark, deep patination within the grain.

These chairs are predominantly constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak or elm using mortise and tenon joinery. Common construction features include hand-planed panels, turned leg supports, shaped side wings, and solid timber rockers.

A lambing chair is a regional style of enclosed armchair traditional to Wales and northern England. Historically crafted for farmhouses, the solid enclosed sides and high winged back were designed to protect the sitter from cold draughts during long nighttime shifts tending livestock.
