Description

Here is a fine quality antique set of 8 Georgian style dining chairs, in the style of the Chippendale period, with ribbon backs, constructed during the late Victorian period, circa 1880, with newly upholstered seats, in excellent condition. The 8 Georgian style dining chairs are constructed of solid mahogany, designed with elegant pierced ribbon shaped backs, incorporating finely carved floral motifs, replicated on the ears, and acanthus leaf scroll carvings on the carver arms, flanked by moulded vertical rails.

The stuff over seats have been newly upholstered in top quality hard wearing antique gold chenille upholstery, with traditional hessian material to the underside. Therefore, the seats are in excellent and clean condition, with no marks. The seats are firm but comfortable; you do not sink into the seat. These are a heavy set of chairs which indicates they are of very good quality. The 8 Georgian style dining chairs are raised on tapering moulded legs, terminating on spade feet to the front, with sabre legs to the rear, united by a “H” stretcher for additional strength. The armchairs mirror the design of the singles, with the addition of two splayed scroll arms, secured by shaped vertical supports. Please note, this is a true set of 8 Georgian style dining chairs they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs.

Condition Report:

Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, frames and legs, but nothing significant considering the age of them. The chair frames have been cleaned and hand French polished in our workshop, therefore the colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The seats have been newly upholstered; therefore, the fabric is in excellent and clean condition. This is a true set from the day of their construction (they have not been matched together from smaller sets of similar chairs). The chairs are solid in joint; they do not wobble and they are ready to use.
