ANTIQUE #SA917134

19th Century 'chinese Chippendale' Armchair

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: William Carr Antiques

A truly magnificent late 19th Century carved mahogany armchair, back filled with spell bounding lattice work, boasting highly decorated chamfered legs and aprons; in the ''Chinese'' taste. Upholstered in a classical floral silk, with finely executed ribbing finish.

This astonishing piece of craftsmanship is very reminiscent of the designs published in ''The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker''s Director'' by Thomas Chippendale 1754. See plates No. XXVI, XXVII, XXVIII.

Offered in good overall condition with general wear consistent with age, one sympathetic repair to back leg, carried out to the highest standard, very unnoticeable and has no effects to stability. Structurally excellent.
