John Beazor Antiques is a family firm, established in 1875 and based in Cambridge since 1940. We are a traditional antiques shop, but very much in the 21st century. We deal in 18th and early 19th century furniture, barometers and clocks. We choose our stock for its originality and for the quality of its colour, patination and design.

We are members of the BADA. We do not exhibit at fairs preferring to deal from our Cambridge shop where – in normal times - we hold an Open Weekend every November. We hope to run an event in 2022!

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

A George III toilet mirror, also known as a dressing glass, is a tabletop mirror featuring an adjustable glass set into a frame supported by uprights, mounted on a small base containing one or more drawers for cosmetics and accessories.

These pieces were typically constructed from fine timbers such as mahogany, often accented with secondary woods like pine or oak, and featured original brass hardware, bone escutcheons, and hand-silvered glass plates.

Authenticity is indicated by period construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers, secondary wood linings, original mercury mirror glass with subtle foxing, and turned brass pivot screws.

This piece can be placed on a modern chest of drawers or sideboard to introduce historical warmth, or utilized on a dressing table to combine functional utility with classic cabinet-making craftsmanship.

Preserve the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and maintaining stable humidity levels. Clean the mirror glass gently using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical sprays that could damage the antique silvering.
