The George III period, spanning from 1760 to 1820, is characterised by classical proportions, elegant craftsmanship, and the prominent use of high-quality timbers such as mahogany, often featuring subtle inlay work and graceful, flowing lines.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or finely figured mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak. Construction features often included dovetail joints on the drawers and hand-turned brass pivots and handle pulls.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, secondary wood species inside the drawers, hand-cut dovetails, original cast brass hardware, and the presence of old glass which may show slight oxidisation or imperfections characteristic of historical manufacturing.

A period dressing mirror can be placed on a contemporary sideboard, modern chest of drawers, or dressing console to introduce historical texture, warmth, and a sophisticated focal point that contrasts with clean, modern lines.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking or fading, and clean the surface periodically using a soft, dry cloth without harsh chemical polishes or excessive moisture.
