Late Seventeenth Century Oak Backstool

Description

Late seventeenth century oak backstool, probably South Lancashire/ North Cheshire. Arched back, crisply carved with tulip, roses and leaf motifs. Turned and blocked front legs and stretcher. Good colour and patination. In good solid condition. Circa 1670. For a very similar example see 'Early British Chairs and Seats' by Tobias Jellinek, Plate 392.
