William Carr Antiques has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The fretted splats fit broadly into the Yorkshire tradition and style, however nothing quite alike has been documented with inset triangles such as these. There was a trend or practise in Yorkshire of experimenting with very varied designs of turnings: not many of these have been discovered with makers stamps.
A big thanks to some local wisdom in Julian Parker & John Gall in attempts to identify this special piece. The chair may shortly be appearing in the Regional Furniture Society newsletter.
