A Regency tea caddy is a small, decorative storage box produced during the British Regency period, specifically designed to store and preserve expensive loose tea leaves under lock and key.

These caddies were typically crafted from dense tropical hardwoods like rosewood or mahogany, often featuring contrasting stringing, boxwood inlay, and brass or ivory escutcheons.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, secondary softwood linings, genuine timber patination, and original brass hardware or locks.

An antique tea caddy functions well as a sculptural tabletop accessory, placed upon a sideboard, console table, or bookshelf to add textural warmth and historical contrast to contemporary spaces.

Maintain the timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface and preserve the original polish.
