Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian balloon back nursing chair is a low-seated, armless chair characterised by a rounded, balloon-shaped backrest. Popular during the mid-to-late 19th century, these chairs were originally designed for nursery or bedroom use to facilitate nursing and dressing.

These chairs were primarily crafted using solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood for the frame. The upholstery traditionally incorporated horsehair padding covered in fabrics like velvet, damask, or needlepoint, supported by brass or ceramic castors.

Authentic period examples feature hand-carved hardwood frames with joinery typical of the 19th century, low seat heights, and cabriole or turned legs. Original pieces often display small brass or ceramic castors designed to allow easy movement around bedrooms.

A Victorian nursing chair serves as a practical accent piece in modern bedrooms, dressing areas, or living room corners. Its low proportions make it ideal for smaller nooks or alongside low side tables to add contrast to contemporary spaces.

Mahogany frames should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned with natural beeswax polish to protect the timber finish. Velvet upholstery should be gently vacuumed using a soft brush attachment and kept away from direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
